So, what does this mean for tutoring?
If you’ve been to the Computing Center this week, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve undergone a bit of a technology upgrade. This week, tutors are piloting a system in which they use iPads to track usage. This doesn’t mean we’re keeping close tabs on everyone coming through our doors. It simply means that when you ask a tutor for help, the tutor will have to input a few pieces of information before tackling your question with you.

Because of Presidents' Day weekend, the Student Computing Center will be closed Feb. 15-17 (Saturday through Monday). Our normal hours will resume starting at 7:30 am on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Enjoy the long weekend! You likely have noticed that logging into campus computers has changed a little bit recently. In an earlier post, we shared some information about this change at SPSCC: rather than logging in with generic account info, now students have to log in using their Office 365 account info. If you have not yet set up your Office 365 account (and trust us – you’re not the only one), you have a few options for doing so.
Want to get a leg up on your courses this quarter? Between January 15 and January 30, the Learning Center is sponsoring a number of educational workshops to boost your confidence in computing, learning strategies, writing, math, and science.
The Student Computing Center offers a cordial welcome to the students, staff, and faculty of the SPSCC community. Winter quarter 2014 brings with it a few changes; read on to learn about these important new developments in computer use at SPS.
For students, there should be nothing more reassuring than being told that the skills you’re learning are the very skills that companies value most. A recent study suggests that what SPS students are learning in CIS and communication courses will definitely be of value in the workplace.
This coming quarter, the Student Computing Center is glad to be adding instructional tutorials to our website for the first time. The first round of tutorials will cover two topics: the ribbon in Microsoft Office, and basic formatting in Microsoft Word. You can expect to see these tutorials posted to the website in January 2014.
The Computing Center staff will continue to develop tutorials in the future, so if you have an idea for a tutorial topic, feel free to let us know! Either drop by our staff office in room 104, Building 34, or shoot us an email at [email protected]. You can also give us a call at 360-596-5273. We’d love to hear your thoughts on what computer-related questions are important to you! The Student Computing Center will be closed from Thursday, November 28 through Saturday, November 30. We will resume normal hours starting Monday, December 2. From everyone at the Computing Center, we wish you a safe and restful Thanksgiving break!
So today in the Student Computing Center, we had a little technological mishap. While it was mildly disruptive, it does serve as a good reminder to students, staff, and faculty: SAVE YOUR WORK.
